UPPER LAKE MERCANTILE (Our Store!)

Located in downtown Upper Lake, The Upper Lake Mercantile offers beautiful, useful items for both home and body. From jewelry to jams, paintings to plants, furniture to ferns, the Mercantile offers an array of items, many locally made or sourced, for use by our customers and for gifts.

We’re open 10am to 6 pm daily.

We can be reached at (707) 275-9225.  Our store is located in the restored historic Bank of Upper Lake Building at 9490 Main Street, Upper Lake.  The mailing address is P. O. Box 102, Upper Lake CA 95485

How it Started

The original bank building in town has had many lives and sat empty for several years.  The central location, huge windows, beautiful wood floors and high ceilings were perfect for an attractive retail space.  The town clock in front of the building is a prominent landmark.

We could not take on the project alone.  Susan Saunders had a small store across the street and was looking to expand her space and to have a more prominent location. In addition to being a talented artist and knowing many other artists interested in showing their work, Susan was a perfect fit to partner with us from the beginning.

Our Goal

Downtown Upper Lake is a wonderful place, but could use a little filling out. We wanted to do our part.  We’ve tried to create a store that will enhance the quality of life for locals as well as visitors to the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon.  Upper Lake is a great rest stop for travelers on Highway 20, connecting the North Coast and the Central Valley.

Shopping locally is a big part of a thriving community. We strive to offer an ever changing list of interesting and useful things.  Our goal is to provide our customers with a place to visit and shop in an attractive and personal space.

A Good Review

Tony Barthel, proprietor of the Featherbed Railroad in Nice, recently posted a nice review of the Mercantile.  Check it out here.
