If you go into the County Seat of Lakeport (15 minutes away, be sure to visit the Historical Museum in the old courthouse building and the lakeside Library Park. It's named Library Park because of the historic Carnegie Library at its center. Click here for an interesting article about the history of the Library.
Ukiah to Willits - A Short Drive
30 Minutes west of Upper Lake on Hwy 101 is the town of Ukiah. It's definitely worth a visit, especially the Grace Hudson Museum & Sun House. Located at 431 So. Main Street, this modern museum and historic home features the work of artist Grace Carpenter Hudson, Pomo Indian baskets, historic photographs and objects from the large collection of the Carpenter-Hudson family. Further up Hwy 101 toward Willits is Ridgewood Ranch, home of the legendary racehorse Seabiscuit. It's a great place to visit, but please check for their tour schedule.
Finally, 50 minutes up Hwy 101 from Upper Lake is the town of Willits. An unforgettable experience is to ride the Skunk Train through the redwoods on a half day trip to Northspur or all the way to Fort Bragg on the coast. Please check their trip options and schedule of departures.
